Detailed description of Brackenridge Park Golf Course

Brackenridge Park Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located just north of downtown San Antonio, Texas.

Brackenridge Park Golf Course first opened for play in 1916. The course was designed by A. W. Tillinghast. The 2008 restoration of "Old Brack" by John Colligan re-routed the course to Tillinghast's original layout and renewed its conditions to premier standards. The front nine is lined with mature oaks and pecans but the back nine open where the wind comes into play.

Brackenridge Park Golf Course is also the new site of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Come visit the clubhouse to see the "Walk of Fame", the "Wall of Frames", and the Texas Tournament Trophy Room!

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,243 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,279 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 511 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 133 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, the 511-yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Brackenridge is # 15, the 133 yard par-3.

Day 35 - 100 days, 100 courses (Wednesday, April 17, 2019)

Just a couple of Union guys out for a round of golf. Joe Cardinal and I met for the first time and set off to have a great round of Golf. Brackenridge is a nice little track which is part of the Alamo City Golf Trail.

I've now played on 2 of the 8 courses that make up the trail but if the rest are like these, it must be nice to be a resident of San Antonio. Both were nice courses.

However, someone needs to explain the square greens to me though. Very disturbing. I have so many questions... how? why? what's the history here? One of them even had right angles so that in theory you might not be able to reach the hole.

Shot an 86 with only 1 lost ball.

Historic and import Texas golf course... fun layout, but not worth the price. $50 GF plus $15 for the cart. If you like to play fast...don't go here. Slow, Slow and Slow! This course might be a re-do if it were $39 during the week.

Golfer friendly course, biggest gripe is pace of play. 5 minute rule looking for a ball needs to be enforced, especially since you can't lose a ball there except when you hit it out of the course. Price is expensive unless you have a San Antonio Golf Trail card, then the price is extremely reasonable, especially during the week.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

recent renovation vastly improved the condition of this historic golf course. it is now in superb shape. unfortunately the back nine was unecessarily completely rerouted into a jumbled mess. the most scenic hole on the course was completely eliminated. when the course green fees are returned to muny levels it will be worth playing as a novelty. the current fees (75-100) are beyond the reach of san antonio golfers.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby
