Detailed description of St. George Golf Club

St. George Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Saint George, Utah.

St. George golf course first opened for play in 1976. The course was designed by David Bingham.

St. George Golf Club is a municipal course operated by the City of St. George. As the city has grown and new courses have been added to the area don’t forget this one. The golf course has been a part of St. George for 30 years. It has more of a traditional feel to its lay out, while maintaining the challenge of a Par of 73.

The appeal of St. George Golf Club has always been the favorable greens. As with most older courses, the greens are not as tricky, and putts are makeable for longer distances even for the average player. Big greens and the area around the greens provide players area for their “less than perfect shots.” Another appeal of this course is that of two seasons. During the peak season, November through March, the golf course has the distinct look of other southwest courses where the rough has a brown look while the tees, fairways, and greens are a rich green color.

In keeping with the natural surroundings, this course features acres and acres of informal bunkers called "waste areas" that are actually anything but wasteful. They give the golfer the feeling of playing the exclusive courses in the Scottsdale area that are characterized by fairways cut right into the natural desert terrain.

St. George Golf Club winds its way through the Ft. Pearce Wash. Memorable features include the challenging par-3s, all requiring shots over water and the peninsula that hosts both the par-5 9th green and the par-4 18th green. Even though most golfers will have a short iron approach into these two greens, accuracy and distance control are at a premium. Par: 73, Yards: 7,217, Rating/Slope: 73.7/126

Any trip to St. George, Utah, which offers some of the most favorable weather conditions in the winter months, is worth including the St. George Golf Club. This is a reasonably lengthy course, playing over 6000-yards, even from the shorter white tees. Stretching to more than 7000-yards from the Championship Gold Tees, it becomes a dynamite golf course. Both nines are relatively tight, but there's only water on two holes on the front and four on the back. Fairway and greenside bunkers are very strategically located on all eighteen holes, so accuracy is a premium here.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
