Lake Of The Woods Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Locust Grove, Virginia.
Lake of the Woods first opened for play in 1971. The course was designed by Algie M. Pulley Jr.
The picturesque 18-hole PGA course was carved into the woods of oaks and pines, and no two fairways adjoin. The par 71 course, with four sets of tees for each hole, is designed with a variety of slopes, sand, and water, and can accommodate all levels of play. Men, women, and children alike enjoy testing their skills on the fairways and greens. Golf course maintenance is comprehensive and performed year-round to keep the course in top playing condition.
Lake of the Woods plays to a maximum distance of 6,554 yards. The course rating is 72.2 and the slope rating is 128.

This is a great layout during the Summer and Fall but leaves a lot to be desired during the Winter & Spring when the Bermuda grass is dormant. The lie in the rough was better than in the fairway and the course has a serious drainage problem. The course maintenance is provided by a professional maintenance company (IMG) but the Spring maintenance for the fairways could have been accomplished by any farmer with a disc behind his tractor. Once the course comes to life it is a beautiful course to play and well worth the money. Because it is a Private course a large percentage of the membership are past middle age and the pace of play can become very stagnated.

I played in a Ladies' Member Guest in early June. The course had greened up nicely. The fairways and greens were in very good condition. Despite a fair amount of rain, the fairways had drained well and we could scatter the carts. We found the greens difficult to read as far as the breaks. This was true even for the members! One thing to note for the women golfers is that all the par 3's played at least 130 yards and several were also uphill. There are just a few water hazards and one environmental area to clear. I found the course challenging enough but fair.
