Tanyard Country Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Louisa, Virginia.
Tanyard golf course first opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Lawrence Kavanaugh. It was redesigned and expanded to 19 holes by Tom Clark.
Tanyard Country Club traverses rolling terrain with enough water and woods to challenge but still be fun for all at a very reasonable price. Washington Golf Monthly says "It's fun and makes you feel welcome."
When Mr. Kavanaugh sold Louisa Country Club to its members in 1996, they did more than just change the name. They called upon veteran golf course architect Tom Clark to redesign and expand the course to 18 holes. Mr. Clark was a senior partner in the firm of Ault, Clark and Associates. His vision became reality in the new Tanyard Country Club named for the Tanyard Branch that empties into Beaver Creek at a spot near the seventh tee.
More water comes into play on both the second and third holes, while hardwoods frame the fairways along the back nine. Number 8, Tanyard's signature hole, is a demanding par 3 that measures 203 yards from the back tees. Accuracy and distance control is needed to cross a ravine, fly the bunkers and hold the elevated green. But don't let this test of golf discourage you.
Open to the public, Tanyard Country Club invites both the low handicapper and the weekend hacker to tee it up and take their best shot. With multiple tee boxes ranging from the whites at 4829 yards to the championship golds at 6500, the course is very user friendly.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6500 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4829 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 10, a par-5 that plays to 556 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 13, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, a 433 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 18, a 255 yard par-4.
