James River Country Club is a Private 18 holes golf course located in Newport News,Virginia.

James River Country Club first opened for play in 1931.The course was designed by James McMenamin. In 2008, the course was rennovated and updated with new agronomy technolgy by John LaFoy, while at the same time keeping with the original theme and routing of the McMenamin routing. Attention was given to shot values by better positioning teeing areas and fairway bunkering.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees the course plays to 6,433 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,366 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 526 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 155 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 1, a 445 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 155 yard par-3.
