Bermuda fairways are well established now -- overseeded with rye. Course is wet since on Potomac flood plain, though drainage much improved in recent years with new French drains. Greens are excellent, recently rolled. Fresh sand in bunkers. Spreading sand on most fairways to raise a bit and improve drainage. New replacement bunker on 18, right side of 16 and left side of 14. Building new tee on 4. NVRPA is steadily improving the course. Weekday memberships are great for us retired folk.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Since bermuda grass and fairway drainage was added in the last 3 years or so, the course is greatly improved. Greens are very true and putt nicely. One of the best public course in the Washington DC area. This is the old PEPCO course. A tough course for seniors from the middle tees because many of the holes are over 400 yards.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I only played 9 holes, but they changed their grass last year and the course still has many ruts, mushy spots and bare areas. Good place to practice, not a good place to maintain your handicap.

A decent municipal course. Recently replaced fairways with Bermuda grass, which was supposed to have been in good shape in late summer but is not in December. I like playing--and walking--the course in the winter and working on my game. If it's cold enough, I can get away with hitting several balls. Two years ago, Algonkian and the two other regional park courses began offering all inclusive seasonal memberships. A walking senior can play Monday through Friday for a year for $840, plus hit all the range balls he wants. As a result, the courses have become very crowded in season, and a lot of people have discovered that they can play golf in cold weather. I used to have the course to myself most of the time, especially in the winter. That's no longer true. Still, it's a decent layout and a good place to practice when it's cold enough to keep the number of players down.

Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Worse than average course for the area
