Ford's Colony At Williamsburg is a Semi-Private, 54 hole golf course facility located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Ford's Colony has 3 18-hole championship golf courses, Blackheath, Marsh Hawk, and Blue Heron.
The Blue Heron Course opened in June, 2000 and was designed by architect Dan Maples. It plays from 5,178 to 6,266-yards at a par of 72, and was created from 9 new holes combined with what was formerly known as the Blue Nine that dated to 1985. The course has long and challenging par 3's, straight forward par 4's and intimidating par 5's. Blue Heron provides some room for error off of the tee, but makes up for it by having 17 out of 18 greens guarded by bunkers. Set among Virginia's dense wetlands, this unique setting is home to many different birds, fish and other aquatic life.
#4 is a good example of the challenges faced at Blue Heron. An accurate tee shot is required, because wetlands border the entire left side of this par 5 and there is a fairway bunker on the right. You must play your second shot over a long water hazard, to a narrow landing area that is guarded by bunkers. Your approach shot is to a green that is severely sloped from right to left and back to front. Par this hole and you have done well.
Gold tees: 6,266 yards
Silver tees: 5,695 yards
Bronze tees: 5,178 yards
