Forty Niner Country Club first opened for play in 1961.The course was designed by William F. Bell.
The course sits between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, with views of both ranges. Forty Niner sits along a wooded riverbed with fairways lined by mature trees and native desert shrubbery. Excellent course for the price. It's in good condition, interesting layout, challenging but not too challenging. It's a course in the Rincon valley, surrounded by mountains. It's pretty, with aninteresting layout and the best bargain in town. Downside - It has narrow fairways, thin, wet sand in the traps, very little water, gas carts, small pro shop and a not so good restaurant/clubhouse. However, the food and drinks are reasonably priced and pretty good. I recommend it, especially for winter visitors.

Feel it is one of the nicest and best values in the area for a non professional average, senior golfers who only play 9 holes. At this price their twilight rates are truly bargains, especially considering there is no 9 hole rate. If playing 18 holes it is certainly a steel. Buying their wildcard even makes it a better value.

We've played this course for the past 3 years and have been pleased to see it turn around under new management. The course has lovely mountain views, welcoming staff, and plenty of challenges for an average golfer. It also offers excellent practice facilities and has an excellent teaching staff.
