Riverlakes is a great lay-out and a very good test of golf for golfers of all abilitys,but they need to not water the golf course so much and cut the greens and fairways. The bunkers are in desparate need of sand.

Fron May through September it's best to play this course early for 3 reasons: the greens are in better condition, the pace of play is 4 hours or less, and the heat is bearable. The greens are uniformly large and make for a generous target, but many are two tier and all have slopes and swells that test your putting. If your partner says you can have a gimmie, take it. The golfers are by and large cordial, and the staff is always professional and courteous. Best day rate course in Kern county.

I don't really care what the fairways are like as long as the greens are puttable. I would compare the greens to a public older golf course in Portland, Oregon during winter time when there is a El Nino weather pattern. I have never played on such terrible greens, the were extremely soft, bumpy and ball marks everywhere. The fairways were slow and soft, like playing in the winter rain season up north. The first par three was unusual, I don't know what you call the area around the green, waste area or what, but it was terrible. I did love the layout, I wouldn't define any hole as a circus hole, If they improved the greens and kept the fairway grass shorter I would play this course again when I travel there.

Fun course to play. Challenging but can score well if shots are played correctly. Does require quite a few club selection choices, especially drives, which makes it more fun to play than the average public course.

Good course & good value staff is excellent. This is my home course. Pace of play can be slow on Friday thru Sunday.

Excellent greens. Hot, but worth it! Excellent rates with hot weather. Shot 5 over par from the whites and loved it.
