lower green fees would be great for local supporters of HMB

The course requires a variety of skills given its turns and hazards. It is not a grip it and rip it course. The view from the eighteenth tee box is as good as it gets.

On a beautiful day, no course other than pricey ones down in Monterey can match the amazing feeling when you walk up to the 17th and 18th tee boxes. It can make up for a lousy round. Those days are hard to predict because of the oceanside weather that can change rapidly. But if you get lucky and the weather is nice, you don't really care what your score happens to be. Good challenging layout too.

Wonderful course, lacking on pro-shop staff friendliness and consideration unless they know you. Restaurant staff friendly, attentive and serve good food and a quality drink at a fair price.

Friendly staff. Greens and fairways in great condition. Pace of play was great, no wait on any tee. Got a bargain rate, but would not play at full price.

Great place to play. Interesting holes especially 18. Reminds me of being in Scotland and the ocean view is spectacular

The Old Course at Half Moon Bay has aged well. There are now fully grown trees which are strategically placed and give opportunity for shot shaping both from the tee and for approach shots. The course is well maintained with lush fairways and roughs and very nice poa annua greens. The greens are well-contoured and provide for a good variety of subtly breaking putts. There are a combination of short and long par fours with lots of doglegs with high levels of risk and reward. Several of the par fives are reachable, but have water or bunkers to catch the errant second shot. The par threes, unfortunately are too much alike and played 175, 195, 177 and 160 into a wind (effectively 175) and I found myself hitting the same club into three of the four par threes. They definitely need to mix up the tee boxes to provide more variety. Houses line most of the fairways but are never really intrusive. And the 17th and 18th holes are truly spectacular with their views of the Pacific. The 18th is a great finishing hole requiring a decision on the tee shot and then an approach to a green perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific on one side, and being overlooked by the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Resort on the other. All in all, an excellent golf course which will test all the clubs in your bag.

I play the course 2 or 3 times a month in good weather. After noon rates are fair for cart and quality of course. I like the Old course better than the Ocean course but if you just play once their play the Ocean.Old course 18th from the tee box is just awesome, 16th is a tuff hole.

Clearly the tougher of the two HMB courses. The other, links style course is more picturesque, has no houses, windier and more forgiving of errant shots. Most holes are intriguing enough to be player's holes. Difficult to figure out 16th leads to rewarding 17th and fabulous 18th. Second best 18th in Northern California after the oft-televised one in Monterey peninsula. Helpful staff, remarkably well-maintained even in times of poor weather. On course food and facilities are a bit lacking.

One of the better courses I have played. Little cold in January but manageable.

Just a notch below it's sister course, but still spectacular. Not worth the full price of $175, but there are plenty of deals to be had if you look for them. #18 is a Kodak opportunity and one of the most beautiful holes you will ever play anywhere. (It was actually used in one of the American Pie movies).

Both courses are spectacular, conditions excellent with the 18th holes playing along the bluffs of the Pacific. Great golf from any of the five tees. Will definately play again and use to entertain business clients. Staff was friendly and very helpful.

There are 2 courses here. the Links and the Old course. Members play the Old course because it is more challengine and longer. The Links is a good resort style course (the Ritz is managing partner on the course. ON A SUNNY DAY BOTH ARE BEAUTIFUL.
