Canyon South Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Palm Springs, California.
Set in the Indian Canyons and is one of the more scenic courses in the area. A good test of golf, with some tough par-3s. Bermuda greens.
The course first opened for play in 1963. It was designed by William F. Bell.
Canyon South plays to 6,869 yards from the back tees. The course par is 72. The course rating is 72.3 and the slope rating is 125.
Canyon South has its high season from January through March. Players during the summer should expect a very warm round of golf.

I have a Players Spirit Card, so the price was less than rack. I played on Thursday. They were obviously preparing for the weekend. On practically every hole, the fairway maintenance and greens mowing machines were ahead of me. There were piles of grass along the mowing lines, so the ball did not play as normal. The greens were not brushed, so I experienced the same thing occasionally. One will not find a more friendly pro shop staff. Dennis Pugh, the club pro, is outstanding, helpful, and humorous. He gets you started with a sense of pleasure coming your way. I play this course often, and it's one of the hidden gems (from those who don't know about it) in the Coachella Valley. It is out of my price range because I am a year around resident. However, if I were a vacationer, I would play this challenging track every day. Magnificent layout surrounded by mountainous and windless beauty. All courses in this area are overseeded every fall. Indian Canyons South Course is seeded late, so the play dates offset the closed dates of other local courses. I prefer this course to Indian Canyons North Course, which has homes along the fairways, a different and less interesting track -- but it is also a beautiful course. One must play it once, at least. It was once a private club course that has been repossessed by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian nation. They are doing a terrific job in this area.

This course is now part of a two course complex owned by the Agua Caliente Tribe. The other course - known as Indian Canyons North is the former Canyon Country Club - a historic track dating back to the 1950's and the original site of the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Open. The South Course was once connected to The Americana Canyon Resort which was torn down in the 80's. I like the South Course track better. The north course is interesting in that many of the homes on the course are former celebrity homes. The South has very few homes on the course.

Indian Canyons South course is gorgeous...located at the base of the foothills in Palm Springs, the mountains provide an incredible contrast to the lush green fairways on the course. Numerous palm trees line the fairways, giving you the Palm Springs experience you were dreaming of. Ponds(4), and fountains combine with the flowering shrubs to provide a good measure of "Wow" factor.
The track is a traditional layout,(no desert waste areas) and is very playable, with few serious challenges. Despite the proximity to the bordering hills, none of the holes incorporate any incursion into them, which could have been interesting.
There are very few houses on the course to detract from the golf experience.
If you are looking for beauty, great conditions, friendly staff, and a "tee it high, and let it fly" day on the links, you have found your course.
