Hunter Ranch Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Paso Robles, California.
Hunter Ranch Golf Course first opened for play in 1994. The course was designed by Kenneth H. Hunter, Jr., and Mike McGinnis. Kenneth Hunter developed this course, along with La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc and Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta. All three courses have received recognition as outstanding courses.
This course was built on the hilly wine growing area of Paso Robles. There are many uphill and downhill shots. Besides the hills, the major design feature of the course is the numerous large oak trees that were left in place and incorporated into the design. On several fairways trees were left in the middle of the fairways, which can block your approach shots to the green. Several holes use the trees to create narrow openings from the tee to the fairways. There are several large, deep sand bunkers both on the fairways and around the greens. The greens are medium to large in size and very fast. The greens have some slope and a few are tiered but they are not very undulating.
The most difficult hole is #7, a 586-yard, par 5, which has a severe dogleg left fairway and plays uphill. This hole has a very narrow opening from the tee to the fairway and trees all along the fairway that can interfere with your shots. The back nine has several holes with water in play. Hole #15 is a 518-yard, par 5, featuring a dogleg right fairway that veers around a lake. This hole can be reached in two when hit to the left side of the fairway, leaving about a 200-yard shot to the green. As an added bonus, surrounding the course are several vineyards, and down the highway, wine tasting rooms.
Hunter Ranch Golf Course plays to 6,744 yards from the Blue tees and a par-72 . The course rating is 72.6 and the slope rating is 136.

I would recommend Hunter Ranch Golf course to players who enjoy a challenge. I would also recommend being on their email list for specials. The course is beautiful, challenging and great greens.

One of the best daily fee courses on the central coast and one of my favorite courses in all of California.

This is a challenging, well maintained public course. It is better than private courses I have played both in layout and condition. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good at the cafe. It does get hot in the summer so be prepared. For anyone living in the area, membership in the Players Club is a bargain.

The greens are excelent, firm, undulating and fast, the fairways are a little over watered but overall pretty fair. The course is quite challenging with some tight holes and position off the tee is a definate requirement. It is somewhat hilly so unless you are in good physical condition take the cart. The staff in the pro shop are very friendly as are the restaurant employees also their Sunday Brunch is one of the best I've ever had!

If you haven't played Hunter Ranch yet, you haven't challenged your game.

Hunter Ranch is the nicest golf course in San Luis Obispo County hands down. It is affordable, challenging, well maintained, and has by far the smoothist and best greens in the county. The sand traps are real traps with soft fluffy deep sand, not just four inches deep and then rock; and to make it tough, there is a trap in every landing area, dern near. Stay out of the Oak Trees and in the fairway is the only way to score well here. The par 4's are long so if your not getting off the Tee properly you will be scrambling for bogey all day.

This is a great course. It is not for the beginner or high handicaper, (30+. The back 9 is a great test!

played during a heat wave 100+ days, play early, very little rough. Gas carts and no gps, sometimes hard to find yardage marker. When playing early the course is wet and soft

My home course, so I have a players club membership which allows for reduced green fees. Very good test of golfing abilities; a challenging layout. You definately want to play this course the first time with someone familiar with the layout. Great ambiance, course is surrounded by vineyards. The course has a real issue with ground squirrels, so there are a lot of burrows to be aware of off the fairways. Holes 11-15 constitue a local "amen corner" as all holes except 13 have carries across either water or barranca. 13 has it's own challenges with a creekbed that can be reached with a good drive, and trees bordering the fairway on the approach.

Great course, but play with someone who knows the layout, and will give you pointers on where to hit the ball. The course can be very frustrating if you are playing it without some course knowledge. Can be a bit hot during the summer. As a result, fairways can be overwatered in the morning during the summer (to protect the grass), which takes away from how great this course is.

Look for e-specials on their web site. Good bargain if you are a member or don't have to play full price. Back nine is much tougher than the front.

Great ambiance, great layout. Fairways are immaculate with good "slope" lined by Oak trees and criss cossed with "barranca" and good amount of water hazards and elavation changes as well that are available to the less that accurate player. . Greens tend towards the smaller size are perfectly groomed and bunkered well. Course would, by it's location, tend towards the "hotter" side of comfortable in the Summer months. All in all a great experience - from the pro shop to the resturant to the greenskeepers.

I played here twice in May on a Monday & Tuesday. The fairways and greens were pristine, and the greens were lightning fast. This is a tough golf course, and course knowledge is very helpful. I'll be back in September and will play again. The only complaint one could imagine would be the weather. Paso can get very hot in the summer months.
