Detailed description of Breckenridge Golf Club

Breckenridge Golf Club, is a Public, 27 hole golf course located in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Breckenridge Golf Club is a city owned Jack Nicklaus designed, 27-hole golf facility. The course first opened for play in 1985. In 2001 a third nine holes also designed by Nicklaus was added.

Breckenridge has three championship nines, the BEAR the BEAVER and the ELK. All three nines are Jack Nicklaus signature courses. Playing at 9300 feet in elevation, each nine offers a mountain golf experience. Panoramic views of the snowcapped Colorado Rockies can be seen on every hole. Dense wooded areas give way to open native grassland and wetland areas. It is not uncommon to spot wildlife during your round. Seeing the beaver, deer and elk, an occasional moose and bear, abundant red fox and red tail hawks, you realize golf at Breckenridge is more than just golf.

The Elk nine as it is named, offers more elevation change than the Bear and Beaver nines.

The golf course complex is situated in a beautiful mountain valley. The clubhouse sits at an elevation of 9,324 feet. At this elevation the golf ball flies farther and straighter than at lower elevations, as there is less air resistance. The air not only allows you to hit the ball farther, but also offers temperatures that make you forget about the heat of the summer. Typical daytime summer temperatures range from 65 degrees to 80 degrees. Quite rarely will the temperature exceed 80.

The course has four sets of tees so that each golfer may select the challenge equal to their game. From the Nicklaus Tees on the Elk / Beaver rotation, the course plays 7,145 yards and has a course rating of 73.5 with a slope rating of 151. This set of tees has the second most difficult course rating in the state. A challenge for even the best golfer. Each set of tees plays to a par 72.

One of the most beautiful Club house and back drop views you will ever see. It’s a screen saver for sure. The course is top notch fairways and greens. Be sure to take the time look around and to experience the mountain settings. 27 holes so save some time to play them all. Also a must, spend time on the deck at the club house to take it all in. My rating an A.

Play this Jack Nickalaus course 15 times a year at least. Never get tired of it. Can be pricey, but twilight rates make it very affordable, but at the same time busy. If you spray your driver bring an extra dozen balls and dont bother keeping score or leave the driver in the bag whenever possible.

This course is worth the drive from Denver or worth staying a few days in Breckenridge to play here. Beautiful and challenging layout. Great patio restaurant overlooking the course and surrounding mountains.

Love the variety the three 9s provide. Very different challenges for all three. Beautiful vistas everywhere you look. A true mountain course that should not be missed.

I play this course five days per week during our short season - difficult Nicklaus course that is always a challenge, no matter which of the three nines you play. Always great conditions, greens are superior this season, some of the usual early season fairway damage from record snows this year. Price is for local residents - visitors will pay $100 plus in peak season
