Fossil Trace Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course located in Golden, Colorado.
The Fossil Trace Golf Club golf course first opened for play in 2003. The course was designed by Jim Engh.
This championship layout rests adjacent to the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. The course offers a varity of golf experiences in addition to the beautiful views.
From the pure simplicity of a 100 yard par 3 to the long ball challange of a 659 yard par 5, Fossil Trace offers every level of player a unique and acceptable challenge. Length of the hole is not your only concern as the undulation of the greens combined with the 10 foot deep fairway and greenside bunkers will test even the most accomplished player.
Twenty-foot tall natural sandstone monuments emerge from # 12 fairway, demanding that each player be respectful of the 64 million year old trace fossils of palm fronds and triceratops footprints located adjacent to #12 green.
Several massive relics of clay mining equipment remain throughout the course as a reminder of the rich history of the property.
The course plays to 6,831 yards from the longest tees, 6,241 yards and 5,559 yards from the next two sets of tee boxes and 4,681 yards from the ladies tees.

Very narrow fairways & the greens are way too contoured, bowled & ridged....fairways, traps & rough are immaculate...many greens ridiculous to putt on.

With the record drought in much of the country and in particular, the Western United States, Fossil Trace greens are in excellent shape and overall course conditions are much better than most courses, especially better than most public courses.

Do not miss playing this course. Wonderful layout, great condition. One of a kind golf course. Eat here the food is wonderful. If you don't play golf, go for the lunch... I love this place. My favorite in the Denver Metro area which has lots of good courses and reesteraunts.

The course has uniqueness due to the topography and pre-existing structures, like an old stone blasting oven right in the middle of the first fairway. The 10-foot deep pot bunkers are not necessary. It's almost a little too tricked out. Still, I will play it again though.

Greens still weathering from winter. Course still covered in deer poop. Usually a fantastic, well-cared for course with an exciting layout and comfortable ambiance. Practice area for putting and sand shots is one of the best in the area - driving range is a disappointment.
