Detailed description of Walnut Creek Golf Preserve

Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, originally named Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor, is a public, 18-hole golf course located in close proximity south of the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Westminster, Colorado.

The course, designed by  Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry opened for play in 1999.

This Colorado-style Scottish links layout has wide fairways, generous landing areas, and greens that average more than 6,000 square feet. The Heritage also takes full advantage of the sweeping mountain views, while the wetlands, prairie grasses and gently rolling topography making for both a visually pleasing and unique round of golf.

This is a Scottish links-style course is loaded with ball trapping bunkers....90 total: 38 on the front nine and an amazing 52 on the back nine. Water comes into play on the par-3 #7, the par-4 #16 and #18, a par-5. Wind can be a factor as highlighted by windsocks on the flag-sticks.

The course provides players of all levels their choice of challenge with five tee boxes from which to select.

Normally a nice course to play. Unfortunately, the fairways were in TERRIBLE condition due to the winter. This is quite common for courses in Denver in the spring due to a harsh winter. The difference is most courses that are not in "mid season" form still charge the off season or winter rate (usually $15-$30 cheaper). I expresses my disappointment in them charging full price for a round with the course in mid-winter form. They took my name and number and I never heard from them. Lost my business for a while!

Great layout but the course condition was disappointing for this time of year. The eee boxes were in horrible condition and the greens were only slightly better; fairways were decent but had some bad patches.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better courses for less nearby
