The award-winning Arthur Hills-designed layout built in the sand hills of West Central Florida is now a more visually attractive and intimidating layout. Arthur Hills utilized and expanded the existing weather-worn sand dunes, terrain and Pine Valley-like views to create drama. Dramatic elevation changes, forced carries and large, undulating greens provide all levels of golfers a challenge.

We called Dunes Golf Club a week ahead for rates and a tee time reservation. We were told the rate was $45.00 and there was a two for one coupon in Wednesday's paper. We located the coupon and brought it with us. That would have made the rate $22.50 each with the half off coupon. However when checking in we were informed the rate was $70.00 even though we we had been told upon making this tee time that the rate was $45. When we balked at paying the $70 rate, the person handling the check in told us "I don't care, take it or leave it."
So the rate we ended up paying was half of $75, not half of $45. The issue is not really the money, it's the principal of the thing. It felt like a bait and switch and additionally, there was the pro shop attitude. Had he said, "Gosh, I'm sorry for the confusion", that might have been sufficient. "Take it or leave it", was not appreciated.
Driving about and hour and 1/2 getting there we played anyway because we had already had tee time there and not anywhere else. The bad experience continued at the tee box as we were the only players ready to go and we were told we couldn't tee off until our schedule tee time. It's unfortunate, we have played this course since its opening day and we get treated in this manner. Heck, it would have been unfortunate even had it been our first time playing the Dunes.
