Like many Florida courses. Inverness Golf Course sits on fairly level terrain. The course is nestled in a setting of large oak trees, pines, palms and a few cedars that can get hookers and slicers into trouble. Water hazards come into play only on two holes on the front side, #8 and#9, and two on the back, #14 and #15, although errant shots can find lateral hazards on several other holes.
The signature hole on this course is #14, a 135-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to an undulating green that is protected by sand bunkers and a retaining wall.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees. the course plays to 6,402 yards. From the forward tees. the course measures 5,354 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 565 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, the par-3 that plays to 135 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 1, a 411-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Invernes Golf Course is # 14, the signature 145 yard par-3.

IGCC is an unpretentious small town course with surprisingly difficult challenges. Houses line the perimeter of the golf course but there are none on the interior. Oak, Pine, Maple, Cedar, and Palm trees are scattered throughout the course that penalize an errant shot. A single skinny Sabal palm on the fifth fairway seems to be easily negotiated, yet plays havoc with the mind on your second shot into this long par five!
It is easy to take this course for granted until you place your ball on the wrong side of the fairway or come up a half a club short on a deceptively elevated green. The fairways are kept in good shape. The greens are well manicured, they will hold a long iron and putt true if you read them carefully. This undiscovered gem is rarely busy so you can get around in as little as three hours if you're in a hurry or a leisurely four hours if not.
The local membership includes year-round retirees, snowbirds from the East and Midwest, and even a few Europeans who appreciate the good value offered on both the golf course and in the clubhouse.
