Detailed description of Alaqua Country Club

Alaqua Country Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Longwood, Florida, 15 miles north of downtown Orlando. The golf course is the prime amenity of a master-planned, private, gated community.

The Alaqua Country Club Golf Course first opened for play in 1988. The course was designed by Gary Player and Karl Litten. Gary Player has put his personal stamp on Alaqua Country Club. He designed the course to be consistently enjoyable and quite fair for his level of play and for that of the 20-handicapper. Beauty, playability and variety of shot-making were the objectives. This eighteen holes accomplishes them all. The fairways are narrow, and there's water on 15 of the 18 holes.

The signature hole is #4, a par-3 that plays to 177 yards from the back tees. The tee boxes are situated on a series of mounds with towering tree to the right, water in front and to the left leaving you with a tee shot to a small island fronted by a long bunker that designed to catch your under-clubbed shots. Of course the really under clubbed shots will be lost in the water.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,662 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,672 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 523 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 128 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 436 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 15, a 180 yard par-3.

The course is cut out of the Florida woods, so it is ALWAYS wet and occasionally very wet, though I don't ever remember it being flooded. The rough is deeper than most and usually costs you a stroke to get back on the fairway. If you spray it beyond the rough, then you're lost. Some locals refuse to play this course due to its difficulty. Million-dollar+ estates line the course, if you like/don't like that sort of thing. At the driving range you hit floaters into a lake. The course is always in good condition and is a treat to play.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again
