Indian River Preserve Golf Club, previously named Walkabout Golf & Country Club, is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Mims, Florida.
The course first opened for play in 2003. The course was designed by Perry Dye and LPGA Champion Jan Stephenson.
Rich, lush, rolling fairways weave throughout undulating landscape, surrounded by serene lakes, native vegetation and wildlife. The course even features a bonus 19th green par 3 shaped like the continent of Australia. Walkabout Golf & Country Club is located a short drive from Orlando. The course is a challenging links style layout that features the best of American and Australian course design. The lush, rolling fairways are lined with native hardwoods and lakes, and bunkers are strategically located throughout the design. The large greens are challenging but fair, offering a variety of pin placements. Many greens are guarded by mammoth white sand bunkers, calling for accurate approach shots.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,115 yards. From the forward tees the course plays to 4,873 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 13, a par-5 that plays to 589 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 167 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 4, a 455 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 15, the 167 yard par-3.

the layout was probably very good at construction, but poor housing market have left this course to slip from an interesting layout to a weed infested field.

This course, in my own opinion, is poorly managed. This course lets people bring their dogs out with them, so you now deal with barking dogs, dog poop, yelping, etc. They do nothing to speed up play and actually let the members run the course. Management seems to be lacking and seems to want to be everyone's friend so they say nothing as to not upset folks (the good ole boys). There is no starter to speak of because one day there were so many carts on the first tee, I thought it was a tournament.

In fairness to the course, they were closed for a day to tackle some sort of bug problem. However, the course and greens were still very playable and the course and staff were very pleasant.

Played three times during the week. Clubhouse still under construction. Most staff were pleasant. Members were accepting of outside play.
