The Highlands of Elgin first opened for play in 1971. The back 9 was added in 2003. The course was designed by Keith R. Foster.
The original nine holes flow over beautiful rolling terrain, creating a diverse collection of holes. The new nine holes reclaim an old stone quarry, and take maximum advantage of the unique and dramatic landforms that were left behind, including a twelve acre quarry lake. Four holes hug the top of the bluff thirty to forty feet above the water providing golfers with incredible views and numerous shot options on each hole.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,000 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 4,901 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 581 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 166 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, the 581 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The Highlands of Elgin is # 13, a 310 yard par-4.

Hard to walk. Stones under turf nick your clubs. Usually very slow play. Great greens. All in all, really not a very challenging course.

This course has been renovated over the last couple of years and has also added a beautiful new clubhouse. The course has a great design, but I honestly feel it is over priced. Non-residents weekly rate is $55 and weekend rate is $62.

Very hard walk. If you're a divot maker rocks under turf may damage your clubs.

Great layout. Difficult from the "Tippy tips" Greens are great. Hopefully they don't change that. Didn't visit inside the restaurant. Played the course a couple of times this year and will continue to play. Take advantage of the twilight rates.
