Detailed description of Mt Prospect Golf Club

Mt Prospect Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Mt Prospect golf course first opened for play in 1929 as a private country club. The course was renovated in 2014 by David Esler.

From the lush bent-grass fairways to the small well-manicured greens, Mt. Prospect Golf Club offers a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. Tree-lined fairways create a parkland style golf course. The course places a premium on shot-making as players are asked to draw and fade tee shots in order to gain access to the well-bunkered tightly sloped greens.

Golf Digest Magazine awarded Mt. Prospect Golf Course a 3-1/2 star rating.

The course is conveniently located just 20 miles from the Chicago Loop and just 4 miles from O'Hare airport.

This par-71 course plays to a maximum distance of 6,216 yards for a course rating of 70.1 and a slope rating of 124.

Very beautiful course, looks like a club. Overall this course has many pluses, there are a number of hazards that make it a bit challenging for the average golfer. Important to practice course management to enjoy this course. Look for twilight specials and you'll be happy to play this course.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Played here 9-18-09, while visiting in the area from out of state. Started at about 12:30 PM, and finished at 4:45 PM, which is not bad for a muni on a Friday afternoon. Started as a walk-on single and got paired up with three delightful ladies for the first nine.

The Starter gave me the standard briefing on pin position, yardage markers, etc, then added "And don't feed the foxes." I asked for an explanation, and it turns out there are several families of foxes on the course, and sure enough, there was one sitting adjacent to the first tee, looking for a handout! Cool way to start in what is a fairly dense suburban area west of Chicago.

The course itself is OK, very little variation in elevation, but what there is, the designer used skillfully, so that one-s interest is maintained. Holes do run parallel in a few cases, but most are pretty well disguised by trees, some sand and other visuals. Conditions were excellent everywhere.

One hole that stands out in my memory is #7, a relatively short par 3 with a HUGE green, with two tiers, the upper being at least ten feet above the lower: a real challenge the day I played as the hole was cut on the upper tier about ten feet from the downslope. Two of my playing partners were on the lower tier and took more than one putt to get up the hill. Course is walkable.

Overall, I thought that Mt. Prospect has done a very nice job with their muni. The clubhouse is very nice, with a large restaurant and a well stocked pro shop. Staff was professional and competent. I thought the price I paid ($47) was a little high, but it was a Friday. There are lots of nice munis in the western suburbs of Chicago, and this is one of the better ones.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area
