Hyperion Field Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Johnston, Iowa.
The Hyperion Field golf course first opened for play in 1910. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow.
The Hyperion Club was organized as a social club on January 25, 1900. The site for the Hyperion golf course was selected in 1907 and opened in 1910.
In 1992, the club initiated work on a golf course master plan designed by golf course architect, Bob Lohmann. This plan contains various projects to update the golf course. Many of the green surrounds have been updated with new mounding and sand bunkers, new tees were constructed to accommodate a 4 tee system, the 12th green was rebuilt, and a pond was added on the 9th hole and the 14th hole was completely rebuilt.
Hyperion's setting on a hillside overlooking Des Moines, allows them to open the golf course early in the spring and enables the course to drain quickly after a rain. There are very few days in the season when they are unable to play golf.
Par for the Hyperion Field golf course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6423 yards. The course rating is 72.1 and it has a slope rating of 127. From the forward tees, the course measures 5403 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 547 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 130 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, a 501 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Hyperion Field Club is # 14, a 130 yard par-3.

Enjoyable course. There are better in the area for less. If invited, I would play this course again. Nice layout. Some nice views. Pace of play was excellent.

Hyperion is a private country club established in 1900 and the present golf course is a Tom Bendelow design that started play in 1910. Bendelow also was the architect of Medina's courses #1,2,and 3 and also Olympia Fields Country Club. The Senior LPGA played the Hy Vee Classic at Hyperion for seven years. The Herman Sani Invitational has been held for more than 50 years ( Masters winner Zach Johnson is a past champion ) and Hyperion is the home of the Iowa Hickory Classic Golf Championship featuring some of the best hickory players in the nation. This is a true delight to play and the course is always in the BEST possible condition.
