Waterville Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Oakland, Maine. It's conveniently located less than 2 miles from I-95 (Exit 127), Waterville and Colby College.
The Waterville Country Club first opened for play in 1916. A group of Waterville businessmen, doctors and lawyers purchased 158 acres and transferred it to the ownership of the club. To this day, with modest additions and subtractions, this land forms the basis of the club. The original nine hole course was designed by the members.
The original course was redesigned in 1938 by Orin Smith. In 1967 the club built a second nine and reworked the original nine. The new eighteen hole course, designed by Geoffrey Cornish and Bill Robinson, opened on June 1, 1967.
Waterville Country Club has regularly made the top five courses in Golf Digest's best-in-state ratings. The course has tree lined fairways and small, undulating greens. Locals say this course is not too difficult. The signature hole is #7, a 325-yard, par 4, requiring a shot over water. The terrain is hilly and can be strenuous to walk.
