Patuxent Greens Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Laurel, Maryland.
Patuxent Greens Golf Club was originally built in the 1960"s. The course enjoyed a 1.5 million dollar renovation in 2005. The course was designed by Russell Roberts.
Par for this course is 71. Most holes here are tight, tree-lined straight-aways or doglegs. Some holes have water that you don't see it until you get very close to it. But if you manage your shots, you can keep splashdowns to a minimum.
The rough can be treacherous at times; some greens are small and undulating. And don't be deceived by the moderate, easy-going terrain.
#1 is a par-5 that can be reachable in two strokes for golfers who pick the right club and play their shots wisely. This double dogleg, wandering right then left, measures 457 yards from the back tees and 421 from the forward.
#4 is one of the tougher holes on the front nine, an exciting par-3 that measures 191 yards from the tips and 158 from the front. It has a large green with lots of undulations.
#6 is one of the better risk-reward holes, a reachable par-4 that plays at 324 yards from the back and 294 from the front. It's a slight dogleg left. You can get on the green in two, but you have to cut the corner by going over a patch of trees to the left. There are also trees and heavy rough on the right side from about 150 yards out to the green.”
#9 requires that you make your drive from a slightly elevated tee. This par-4 measures 398 yards from the back and 303 from the front. Water lies up the left side and you need to shape your ball as you go along this dogleg right. As you make your approach, you'll be hitting to an elevated green with bunkers right and left.
#13 to the end will give you more challenges than any other consecutive 5 holes on the course. Thirteen has a severe dogleg left that and is one of the toughest holes. From the back, it measures 398 yards and 295 from the front. You have to shape your ball here to stay in the fairway, or you could end up in right hand rough or trees. There's also water three-quarters of the way down the fairway on the left-hand side starting from the tees.
#17 a par-4 (413 yards from the back, 368 from the front), is another difficult hole. You need a dead-straight drive here because there's no place to miss with your balls. You must carry over a small pond from the tees and then there is out of bounds left and a pond to the right of the green.
#18 is known as "The Watery 18th," which makes for an awesome and picturesque finish. This par-4 (349 yards from the back and 310 from the forward) allows you to hit driver off the tees between lines of trees. Your approach shot is to a peninsula green right next to the clubhouse.
Back tees: 6,294 yards, course rating 71.1, slope rating 131.
Middle tees: 6,155 yards, course rating 70.6, slope rating 128.
Forward tees: 5,279 yards, course rating 70.1, slope rating 117.
The course closed on December 31, 2018.
The property is slated to be converted for residential housing.

Course was in decent shape, especially considering the hard winter we had in MD. Regarding earlier reviews, the entire course was re-sodded in 2013, and it is really paying off now. The greens are in great shape except for the slackers that do not fix ball marks. The fairways still have the occasional bare spot or some weeds, but for the price, just play winter rules and roll it to a better spot. Buy an Insider+ membership for about $30 and then your weekday cost is $29 and weekend cost is $44. That is cheap compared to some other places around here that are far worse, like Walden.

The fairways had large weeds growing throughout. The holes overtopped one another and errant balls were coming across from everywhere. You could see almost 9 holes at a time making the course look really crowded. I played it once and that was enough.

Decent course. Not for long hitters, which makes it a nice length for the average once or twice a week player. Greens are in good shape. However, the tee boxes and fairways need some work. Not too bad for $25 + tax (incl cart).
