Decided to play this nine (9) hole PGA designed/built course that was dedicated to the Disabled Veterans Hospital for rehabilitation in 1955. It was taken over by "New Level Sports Ministries" in 2015 as a community Church outreach for giving intercity persons a chance to try something different. With intercity volunteers performing the daily operations and maintenance to operate a golf course, it gives them a new sense of pride and personal worth. They have two (2) sets of tees with White's at 2,340yds and Red's at 2,088yds on this stretched out, scattered treelined rolling Par 34 layout. The fairways were mowed a little on the long side (1st cut rough length) but very playable and no bald/burned spots that I could find. The rough was 2"-3" long but not very thick grass, so Iron shots were no real problems. Sand traps (1-2) were fluffed and found on every one of the "Small" greens, so accuracy on those 2nd shots was a premium. The small lush greens were rolling at 6-7 and though they were slow, ALL pinch marks had been repaired....Very Rare for even the best courses. Hole #1 is a flat, straightaway treelined 350yd Par 4 with sand LH/RH of green. The #2 Par 4 at 245yds has the fairway dropping off 60yds from the hidden green (front traps) with deep rough to add those trying to drive the distance home. The #3 is a straightaway 255yd Par 4 to a very small uphill green. The #4 at 385yds is their longest hole and listed at a Par 5 with a uphill LH dogleg at 210yds out that I played as a Par 4 to the uphill blind green. The #5 is a 180yd downhill Par 3 with a bad OB kick if you miss left to this green. The #6 is a tough uphill 110yd to a blind 11yd across green that rejects all missed shots. The #7 is a 325yd dogleg right Par 4 that is a uphill 180-200yds to the corner and downhill to another 11yd across green. The #8 Par 3 is a 155yd shot across a deep valley to a small green stuck on the side of a hill that rejects ALL short shots with its steep front/LH side. The #9 is a sweeping downhill right 325yd Par 4 to another 11yd across green with LH/RH traps to catch those missed shots. Enjoyed playing this spread out nine (9) hole course that has a lot of past history with Veterans and building on creating a new type of rehabilitation for intercity persons through .......Golfing. You won't find a more positive Director/Manager of a Golf course than Denise M when you come here to play. I ended up shooting 33 w/12putts as I played #4 Par 5 at 385yds as a Par 4 and had six (6) "Up & Downs" for one (1) putt Par saves on these small challenging to hit greens.
Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line:I would play again, Average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
Condition of Course, Price, Pace of Play, Ambiance, Staff, Layout, No Houses on Course
