HawksHead is a Resort 18 hole golf course located in South Haven, Michigan, on Lake Michigan 20 miles west of Grand Rapids.
HawksHead Golf Course opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Arthur Hills.
This Scottish-style links course in the sand hills area of western Michigan is situated on 240 acres. Its fairways are feathered and its greens are in excellent shape. There are many sandy waste areas throughout the course, some of which measure three to five acres in size. The fairways are lined with tall native high grasses and fescue, and are shaped with mounding. Wind is always a big factor here as the layout is mostly open without trees. There is a good intermixing of holes where you can run the ball to the green links style, and others where you need to fly your shots to the pin. It's a hilly course, so walking is not recommended, but is allowed. There are also ten acres set aside solely for practicing, driving, and teaching.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,003 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,960 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 564 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 172 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 14, the 564 yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at HawksHead is # 3, the 172 yard par-3.

This is a great course for all skill levels. True Scottish links feel. Great ownership and staff that is community-minded and committed to promoting junior golf. Best course for the money ANYWHERE.

Good course lay-out. Choice of tees provides good choice of difficulty. Greens a little rough for a course of this quality. Beautiful setting. Speed of play was excellent. Staff unprofessional.

This is one of my favorites in Southwest Michigan. The course is kept in great shape and the pace of play moves golfers right along.
