After playing a weekend of the five (5) courses at Shanty Creek Resort, this was a relaxing break with my son, Jeremy. He suggested we play this nine (9) hole Executive layout to practice our Iron play and throw out a little side bet......Game On. I've played their other longer "Blue" course before at 2,488yds Par 34 but this short "Green" course is 1,376yds down to 934yds (3 tee's) with a Par 27 on a shared rolling layout. Conditions here are top notch as the course is used by beginners to seniors and taught course etiquette, that shows. The greens are the average size and mostly flat but elevation changes and hill top locations add to the view challenge's. The #1 is 141yds and straightaway to a large flat green that is very hard to miss. The #2 plays from 192-119yds to a slightly elevated green with sides ready to reject missed shots. The #3 is a downhill 175yds with a slightly smaller green, as I'm seeing a trend here with challenges. The #4 is a short 105-90yds to another round hill top green with a steep front. The #5 is a 165-97yd with OB right and long if you miss the green. The #6 is a downhill 138-121yd with water tucked to the righthand front/side of the green and a hill on the left-side to kick on if needed. The #7 is a downhill 119-74yd with a tipped front green sandwiched between two (2) hills for kick-ons but a steep front to reject short shots. The #8 is a LH sidehill green playing 157-129yds with another steep front. The #9 is 184-103yds with water right in front of the green, so its all carry to the dance floor. Really enjoyed these beautiful conditions and the various views in working with my Irons shooting 30 w/16putts and with Jeremy's 32 w/18putts picking up the lunch tab. Real nice layout to take young people to learn playing from different elevation changes on real course conditions.
Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line:I would play again, Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
Condition of Course, Price, Pace of Play, Staff, No Houses on Course
