Traveling back from up north Michigan and had time for a quick nine (9) holes. Course just cleared its outing and the Back 9 (3,011yds / Par 35) was wide open. This 1968 course is basically flat with a nice mix of fairway lined pine/hardwood trees to stop the SW winds from Lake Michigan blowing you over. With most holes (13) running North/South you a nasty side wind to contend with and screw with your ball flight. With only two (2) tees White 5,798yds and Red at 4,787yds, this Par 35/36 links style plays straight forward from the tees. Fairway grass was a little thin in areas, but playing "Winter Rules" one could find something within 6" or less. All Greens were small and round with some undulation in the tipping of the complete green itself, but in good condition. No sand traps to worry about but some extra deep grass was found lurking near some greens. The #10 dogleg right is a 430yd Par 5 but starts with a 180yd tee to the tree lined corner and straightaway to the small flat green. The #11 a 275yd Par 4 has a creek/pond across the fairway 190-220yds out from the tee box and OB down the complete left side and just behind the green. The #12 is a 341yd Par 4 the green is tucked tight to the lefthand side of swamp/trees and a big tree RH side to block those who stray too far right off the tee. The #13 is a long 530yds into the SW wind that has a grass waste bunker across the fairway 360yds out. The #17 is a 180yd Par 3 that has green tucked to a pond on the RH side that the SW wind will push your ball into it if its fading any little bit. The #18 is a long 430yd Par 4 into the SW wind all the way home. Enjoyed shooting 37 w/16putts on this Par 36 Links layout.
