Hyland Greens Golf Course is a Public, 9 hole golf course and training facility located in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Hyland Greens opened for play in 1968. The facility was acquired by the city in 1974.
When first opened, the facility, which sits on 60 acres of land, had two separate nine hole par 3 courses. The Long Course (par-27, 1,438 yards) has tree-lined fairways and medium-sized greens. The Short Course (par-27, 1,159 yards) had small greens and well kept fairways. Water hazards come into play on both courses.
Expenses starting exceeding revenues at this public municipal facility beginning in 2005. In 2012, the short course was closed and replaced by a driving range. In 2015 foot golf was added as another revenue source. Unfortunately the attempts to lower costs and increase revenue have not yet made the operation profitable.
About 60,000 rounds were played at Hyland in 2000, the most ever. Last year, that dropped to 24,000 rounds, a decrease of 60 percent. City officials have said that the course has been operating in the red since 2005 and is projected to lose about $225,000 next year if it remains open.
As of 2015, the city is debating the future of the facility.
