Detailed description of Mahoney Golf Course

Mahoney Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mahoney Golf Course first opened for play in 1975. The course was designed by Floyd Farley.

Mahoney Golf Course is one of five Lincoln City Golf Courses. The Lincoln City Golf Courses have a long and successful history of providing golfing opportunities to the citizens of Lincoln and the surrounding area. The courses are Pioneers Golf Course, Holmes Park Golf Course, Mahoney Golf Course, Highlands Golf Course, and The Jim Ager Golf Course.

All Lincoln City Golf Courses are open to the public 362 days a year with the exception of the Ager Golf Course, which is open April 1st through October 31st. At times, any of the five courses may have a special event scheduled, which may affect the availability of the course for play. Therefore, it is always a good idea to call ahead or visit parks.lincoln.ne.gov/golf.

Mahoney Park Golf Course was the third golf course developed by the City of Lincoln, Nebraska. It also is a championship length, 18-hole golf course, and is located in northeast Lincoln. It has had an irrigation system upgrade and an additional lake which comes into play on several holes.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6459 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5585 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 1, a par-5 that plays to 525 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 130 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 8, a 445 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Mahoney Golf Course is # 12, the 130 yard par-3.

The price has always been an issue. It is a city course and the city is losing a lot of money on them as a whole. Management changed recently so hopefully get better. I could pay 52 on weekends or drive about 10 miles and play at a course that has GPS and pay about the same.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

Very bland course. #'s 8 & 16 quite challenging, however. Somewhat unique layout with 6 par 3's, 8 par 4's, and 4 par 5's. Watch out on hot windy days, course will play much harder due to prevailing wind(s).

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
