Detailed description of Coyote Springs Golf Club

Coyote Springs Golf Club (previously known as PGA Golf Club Coyote Springs - The Chase Course)  is an 18-hole public golf course located in Coyote Springs, Nevada.

The Chase, which opened in 2008, it was the first golf course in a planned series of Jack Nicklaus-designed courses that was planned to flow throughout the planned Coyote Springs community.

Coyote Spring golf course plays to a par 72 and ranges from 5,349 yards from the forward tees to 7,471 yards from the championship tees. Eleven lakes come into play on the golf course many consider to be one of Nicklaus' finest desert creations.

The facility also has one of the larger practice facilities that you are likely to find. The practice facility occupies 19-acres and includes 13 target greens and a short game area for pitching, chipping, and bunker practice.

Day 12 - 100 days, 100 courses (Monday, March 25, 2019)

I put Coyote Springs into the GPS and it tells me that it is 1 hour and 20 minutes away. So I start driving.

After 20 minutes you go by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway at which point civilization ends. 30 minutes later you turn off the interstate and get on a 2 line road for the next 30 miles.

Rumor has it that Coyote Springs was supposed to be part of a 100,000 person development in 2007. After the course was built the development went bust in the financial crisis of 2008.

They did a fantastic job on the course but went a little overboard on the greens. As someone said to me, "if you aren't 4 putting, you aren't having any fun." Fast with multiple breaks and many times the putt would just run off the back.

I only lost 1 ball but shot a 98.

This Jack Nicklaus course is a real treat but be prepared for a long drive to get to it. Located about one hour from Las Vegas or one hour from Mesquite, it is literally out in the middle of nowhere. It was built in the boom years right before the big bust in the housing market around 2007. Consequently, there are no homes around the course and the clubhouse is temporary trailer-type buildings. I hope this course can stay in business. That said, this is a course worth traveling too. The course was in great shape and a typical Nicklaus design with greens a bit perched up and protected by bunkers. However, I would rate this Nicklaus course as more friendly and forgiving than others of his I have played. The fairways are generous enough so that shots that end up in the desert are really your fault. There are a few green complexes that border on the the insane but that is a typical Nicklaus trademark. Nice lakes! Pick the correct tees and you should be able to score well - unless the winds kick up!

overall the staff were courteous and kind. the course itself was tough and nice. my only gripe were the greens. i'm a 7-8 hdcp and i thought the greens were too undulating for the average player. i can't see average golfers having much fun on the greens there. some of them were ridiculous. and the greens weren't in the best shape too.

A Nicklaus Design; ample landing areas with difficult approaches. The greens were in decent condition. My beef with his coureses has been the approach shots and contours of the greens. Some approaches are made very difficult by the shape and contours of the green and pin placement. Even when the approach shot is easier the greens may slope away from the shot or they are multi-tiered and the pin is 3/4 of the way up a ridge. Seems very unfair. Another issue is the isolation of the location. Its almost an hour from either Vegas or Mesquite. The nearest town is about 30 miles. Not worth the trip.

Course is about 50 miles NE of Vegas, and at this point, there is nothing else there but the course, no houses, stores, gas stations, NOTHING! I got conflicting stories as to when they will start building around the course, but one of the reasons I liked this track was it was just the course and the scenery and nothing else. The overall course conditions were excellent. We were told one of the characteristics of a Nickulas signature course was the lack of flat lies. This was definately true here, lots of undulating fairways and flat lies were at a preimum. As for the greens, all agreed they were fast and tricky to read and really messed with your mind, but were in great condition and rolled true. One person commented that the track was more difficult than Wolf Creek in Mesquite. Not sure this was the case myself, but for $99 weekday afternoon on season rate, was absolutely worth the trip and an excellent deal compared to most tracks in Vegas. The only knock I would have is the lack of a club house and true pro shop (all in trailers for now)but would absolutely play here again.

Great Course, Great layout, Lush, greens were lighting fast and lots of undulation, pins were in difficult spots. Totally enjoyed the beauty and layout. This course is 20 plus miles off the Interstate and in the middle of nowhere. It is worth the trip out there. They still have to build a clubhouse and restaurant. Great staff, very accommodating.
