Detailed description of Upper Montclair Country Club

Upper Montclair Country Club is a Private, 27 hole golf facility located only 12 miles from midtown Manhattan in Clifton, New Jersey. The facility has three 9-hole golf courses. The are The South Nine, The East Nine, and The West Nine. They can be paired to form three different 18-hole combinations.

The course first opened for play in 1901. It was designed by A.W. Tillinghast.

The design of the course was altered in 1956 to accommodate construction of the Garden State Parkway.  A major course renovation was required. It was decided to expand the course to 27 holes. The redesign and expansion was designed and directed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. who transformed Upper Montclair Country Club into its present 27-hole Championship design.  In 2011 the Club completed a Master Plan golf course renovation project that included installing a new drainage and irrigation system, and reshaping and restoring all of the bunkers throughout the 27 hole facility. 

The fairways are narrow, and the greens are consistently in excellent condition.  Water hazards that come into play on eight of the twenty-seven holes. Numerous sand bunkers are spread throughout the courses.  Many of the fairways are doglegs, veering both to the right and left.
