Deal Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole golf course located in Deal, New Jersey.
Deal Golf Course first opened in 1895 as a 9-hole venue. Lawrence Van Etten designed the course. The course expanded to 18 holes in 1899. Legendary golf course architect Donald Ross designed and supervised a major revision of the Deal Golf Course around 1915.
The course plays to 6,277 yards from the back tees and a par of 71. The course rating is 70.6, with a slope rating of 125.
Over the years, the bunkers had become worn and misshaped, and many drainage problems existed due to site conditions, and the limited attention given to these details during the original construction.
Kelly Blake Moran Golf Course Architects completed a master plan of improvements for the total course. Implementation of the plan began in 2000 and was mostly completed by 2003.

Deal is a delight, especially if you enjoy classic courses. The original layout is partially by Donald Ross and his mark is clear on several holes, particuarly 7 and 8 which feature very difficult greens. The course is very heavily bunkered, but they can be avoided by thoughtful shotmaking. Our host pointed out that the course has been improved many times over the years and changes are planned for the low lying holes 4 and 5. The conditioning was superb. This is a private course so you need an invite to play. Portions of the course permit views of neighboring Hollywood CC. Wind is a factor as the course is no more than a mile from the Atlantic. If you receive an invite here, clear your calendar!
