Detailed description of Angel Fire Resort

Angel Fire Resort, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Angel Fire, New Mexico.

The course opened in 1961 and was designed by the team of Lebus & Paul Ortiz.

The front nine winds through two canyons of aspen and spruce. The signature 6th hole features a tee box that is 200 higher than the green - 250 yards away.

The back nine offers mountain meadow style play with rolling fairways, streams and plenty of bunkers to challenge every level of golfer. As a matter of fact, there are water hazards that come into play on seventeen holes, and sand bunkers come into play on sixteen holes.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,624 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,348 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 16, a par-5 that plays to 573 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 152 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 9, a 507 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 184 yard par-3.

A mountain course at approximately 9,000ft+ Fairways and greens in excellent shape for August. Hit 4hybrid into signature hole and missed birdie putt. Played with locals which helped with positioning shots. A few gimmicky holes due to doglegs or trees but overall a neat course to play. I had read mixed reviews about the course before playing it and spoke with others who said it would be worth the trip. The others remarked of narrow fairways and not always hitting driver. They were correct and the rough was thick and tall. If you can't control your shot, this is not the course for you unless you want to lose some golf balls and are not easily frustrated. Enjoyed the course as shot to my 10hdcp. and would have been better if I had not bogeyed the first and last holes.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

This was the first time I have played this track and was disappointed. The scenery is nice, but the course was not in the best of shape, dry in spots and wet in others, and the greens were inconsistant and not maintained real well. The layout is bland for the most part. The dry winter might explain the reason for part of the conditions, but for $69, was way over priced for what you got and would not recommend. The local I played with said there were other courses in the area that were nicer and the only reason he was there was he got a discount being he had a place on the course.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby
