The Craig Wood Golf Course was originally known as The Lake Placid Golf and Country Club. In 1954, The Lake Placid Golf and Country Club had its name changed to Craig Wood. Craig Wood (November 18, 1901-May 7, 1968) was born in Lake Placid, New York. He won 21 PGA Tour titles including two majors.

The Craig Wood Golf Course first opened for play in 1925. The course was designed by Seymour Dunn. Originally a nine-hole course, the course was extended to 18 holes in 1932..

The Craig Wood Golf Course is nestled in the mountains, so you can expect many scenic views. The fairways are wide open, but there are enough variety of golfing challenges to test the most experienced golfer. The greens are medium-sized and fast.

The front nine at the Craig Wood course is much more open than the back nine with each hole having its own distinct personality. You better have gotton your game together on the first 17 hole because #18 calls for a precise drive over a large ravine guarded by rough and trees on the left and a road marked by out-of-bounds on the right. It is a fitting finish to a memorable course.
