Sandy Pond Par 3 Golf Course, is a Public, 9 hole golf course located on Long Island in Riverhead, New York.
Sandy Pond Par 3 Golf Course first opened for play in 1970.
This is a short par 3 course. The tees and greens are elevated, and six of the nine holes are well bunkered. The fairways are somewhat open, featuring only a few trees that can affect your shots. Water hazards (three ponds) come into play on six holes. Since the course doesn't have too many trees, the wind from off the ocean, located a few miles away can be a factor.
Blue tees: par-27, 1,070 yards
Red tees: par-27, 935 yards
Holes measure from 85 to 160 yards. Bring your irons and perfect your short game at this course.
#1 is a basic 105-yard hole without any frills.
#2. Your official introduction to the course won't arrive until the 110-yard second, where the first of three namesake hazards ripples behind a friendly "Welcome to Sandy Pond" sign. Offline shots to the right, unfortunately, receive a more personal welcome that will cost you two strokes.
#3. Cross the bridge to the 120-yard third, which plays up a fairly steep hill.
#4 plays back down the hill, and with only 85 yards separating tee from green, it's a fun shot that you don't often encounter. Another pond just off the green's right side adds a dangerous element.
#5 is a simple 120-yard hole with a green tilted right to left and front to back.
#6. Trees frame the shot on the 160-yard sixth, a hole that would hold its own if suddenly transplanted down the road onto a course like Cherry Creek or Indian Island. The overhanging leaves and limbs, along with a pond underneath, create a three-sided threat that's ultimately just a distraction. Split the trees and there's plenty of room short of and around the green.
#8 is also 160 yards with the green but situated below the tee box.
#9. Is a straight and flat 90-yard wedge to the green.
