Nestled in the rolling hills south of Dayton is the Gem of the Dayton public golf system, Community Golf Course. These two courses are referred to as the outside course (the Hills Course) and the inside course (the Dales Course). The fairways are moderately narrow because of the numerous mature trees originally planted around the turn of the century.

The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 543 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 167 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 3, a 372-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Community Golf Course, The Hills Course is # 18, a 359 yard par-4.

I know the golf course industry as a whole has suffered badly, and many courses are closing, it looks like the city is having trouble keeping the course up to conditions. The split rail fence around the property was falling down when I left Dayton 14 years ago, and now the fence is almost completely down!!! Surely if Dayton can pay bus drivers $135,00 a years as reported in the Dayton Daily News, they can repair a split rail fence !!!

Could be kept up better and staff could be more friendly. The rangers might as well stay in the clubhouse, because they do nothing to speed play or encourage a golf like atmosphere.

Played here back in the early 1980's and decided while driving through this area to tee it up again. With the two (2) 18 hole courses (Dales and Community) built in 1919 by Alex Campbell, the Community track is the better. Its referred as the "Outer Course" and wraps itself around the "Flatter/Shorter" Dales (5,302yd) course so Community is more of a rolling Links layout. Scattered tree lined closely cut bent grass fairways, leading up to the soft sand trapped guarded firm greens make for a straight forward layout. These bent grass greens offer slightly tricky reads and rolling 9-10 today, made for light touches on the flat stick. There are some rough spots on tees/fairways but with the amount of play thats normal wear/tear for a Public course. The "Outer" Course was playing soft today so the 3,068/3,236yds / 69.4 / 126 Par 35/36 didn't offer any extra yardage on carry distances. The #3 Par 4 hole hcp 1 was playing 387yds today and making the corner on the LH side is a must if you want a low iron to the green. (I went RH side) The last three (3) holes (16,17,18) will test your alertness/tiredness as you look to finish up playing on a 99 year old course that can still defend itself. I paid $30 for 18 w/cart and shooting 41/42 w/32putts on this beautifully aged and maintained Municipal course in Dayton, OH is a must when traveling through this area.
