Detailed description of Bandon Dunes, Bandon Dunes

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is a resort 72-hole golf facility located in Brandon, Oregon. The facility has four world-class 18-hole golf courses. The courses are the Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course, Brandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes Course, Brandon Dunes, Pacific Trails Course, and Brandon Dunes, Old Macdonald Course. Some say that there is no other place on earth that has as much outstanding and drop-dead gorgeous golf as Brandon, Oregon. Bandon has four courses ranked by golf pundits and players alike as among the best of the best. Bandon Dunes Golf Resort was created and financed by greeting card baron Mike Keiser.

These five distinctly different courses occupy a beautiful stretch of sand dunes perched 100 feet above the Pacific Ocean. Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes feature a dozen holes that run along the bluff overlooking 23 miles of sweeping, undisturbed shoreline. Bandon Trails begins on a massive dune, works its way through open meadows and upland forest, and then finishes in the dunes. Old Macdonald moves through dune to ocean revealing breathtaking views throughout. Brandon Preserve is a mixture of styles and is considered my many to be the #1 par-3 course in America.

Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course __________

The Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course was this first of the four courses. The Bandon Dunes Course opened in 1999. The course was designed by David McLay Kidd.

The Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course features gorse-lined fairways and numerous pot bunkers. The course picks up steam at the 428-yard 5th hole, where your drive and approach shots must thread rough-strewn mounds. The bunkering is masterful, a deep sod-walled design that good aggressive players into foolhardy plays while steering higher handicaps to safer terrain. No. 13 -- a 553-yard par 5 -- has no bunkers at all, but the rolling ground presents no shortage of quandaries.

The Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course measures 6,732 yards from the tips and plays to a par of 72. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,125 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 558 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 6, a par-3 that plays to 161 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 428-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The Bandon Dunes, Brandon Dunes Course is # 12, a 199 yard par-3.

Destination resort. Played both Bandon and Pacific Dunes. You HAVE to walk, but the views are so spectacular you don't even think about it. First time playing one of the courses--hire a caddy, they are worth every dollar. If you're not used to hard tight lies in the fairway and around the greens, go early and get used to them. The greens fees are expensive, but the food on the course is surprisingly reasonable. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Was lucky with the weather, dark clouds to the north and south, but the river nearby seems to keep the weather stable. Next day was warmer and with plenty of sunshine. Whales spouting in the distant, dune buggies on the beach, and a caddie who sounds just like the actor Owen Wilson. It's all part of the ambiance and a trip you will never forget.

Wow! What more can you say about this world class resort! I have been to Bandon 3 different times and have played 3 of the 4 courses. Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, and Pacific Dunes. No matter what the conditions this place is golfing nirvana. I have been to Ireland and Scotland and if someone blindfolded you and dropped you in the fairway along the ocean of Bandon Dunes you would swear you were at Ballybunion! Every hardcore golfer should make this trek. I can't wait to return and play all 4 golf courses including the newest course Old MacDonald. If you want to take a trip with your buddies (up to 8 golfers) I highly recommend staying at the O'Brien House. You pay a little more for the golf but the house is awesome!

A trip to the four courses at this resort is certainly worth a visit once in your life. The time of year made conditions difficult (high winds) but still well worth it. Probably the first time I've experienced true links golf despite playing links courses in the U.S.

"Bandon is where the wind goes for the summer." Right on the ocean, this course has fabulous vistas and wonderful layout. It's a walking course with caddies or pull carts. The day we played the wind was a consistant 30+ mph. I'd love to go back and play without the wind. The course is amazing but it's pricey!
