Detailed description of The Wilderness Golf Course
The Wilderness Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Lake Jackson, Texas, 50 miles southwest of Houston, just 10 miles off the upper Texas Gulf Coast.
The Wilderness Golf Course first opened for play in 2004. The course was designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer.
The course was carved out of the lush forest and routed through protected wetlands. The Wilderness has two distinct nines. The front is more wide open. On the back nine, holes are more secluded with a real wilderness feel.
#2 is a 560-yard par 5 protected by a lake with multiple landing areas for lay-ups.
#7 is a 551-yard, par-5 with a 60 yard... 180-foot long green.
#10 is a 535-yard par 5 risk-reward hole but even the safe play lay-up is no gimme with water to the right of the fairway.
The course isn't overly difficult, but a key to scoring well is the placement of your shots into the green complexes keeping the ball on the proper side of the hole.

We live in Katy TX and have played almost all of the Houston Area Courses. We travel several times a month to Lake Jackson to play the Wilderness. It's the best course and best value anywhere around. The course is always in phenomenal condition and is very challenging. The greens roll very true with some being gigantic. The staff, clubhouse, and practice facility are worth mentioning as well. This is our favorite course in the Houston area.

I got a great last minute deal online. Ordinarily, this course is a little pricey for me (about 45). Love the course. Played 6700+ tees, a little long for me, but played well. No real complaints.

Challenging course, especially from the tips. Beautiful surroundings. Staff is very friendly and amicable

5 Star Ranking on this Golf Course. Excellent layout, superb condition, professional staff which epitomizes TX Hospitality. Look forward to a return trip. I highly recommend this golf course for weekend players and the flat bellies. I play on the average 3 times a week on different golf course since I retired last year and this golf course is mesmerizing - a very sureal experience. The Wilderness Golf Club is an incredible product - Keep up the great work!
