Detailed description of Shadowglen Golf Course
Shadowglen Golf Course is a Semi-private 18 hole golf course located just 15 minutes from downtown Austin in Manor, Texas.
Shadowglen Golf Course opened in 2003. The course was designed by Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell.

Shadowglen is a par 72 course with 4 sets of tee boxes. The course plays to 7,124 yards from the back tees. The other boxes are set at 6,629 yards, 6,047 yards, and 4898 yards.
The 561 yard par 5 hole #7 is the #1 handicap hole on the course.
Shadowglen was awarded 2004 Best New Public Course by Golf Digest and is known as Home of "The Amateur".
After a 10-year struggle by the course's owner to get water promised to him by several entities, ShadowGlen closed in August, 2011. Thirty-seven people lost their jobs.
The lack of effluent - treated wastewater often used to water golf courses - has doomed the 285-acre course, said owner Frank Hutchinson, who is suing the city and the Manor-based developer of the adjacent ShadowGlen housing subdivision. Hutchinson is seeking unspecified damages - which he says are in the millions - to make repairs and recoup lost revenue.

Hold the presses...Shadow Green has reopened again as of Spring 2012 and is back to offering challenging golf.

The website here says CLOSED, but it has since REOPENED. There's a bit of an issue with the shape of the course, having been closed for a number of months, but not much of one--the fairways have a way to go yet, but the greens are in good shape. The biggest problem with this course, upon reconsideration, is the punitive front nine. This contains several holes I did not get to play in my first review seen below. While the back nine is a definite challenge, it is at least a fair measure of where your game is at any particular point. The front nine seems built in some places to reject shots--even decent ones. Nobody wants that.

Great course, but too difficult. Bunker placement renders the driver unusable on several holes. Anyone playing golf for this price wants an easier course.

SURPRISINGLY attractive course just off 290 in Manor. You can see a couple holes from the highway, but if you think that means you've seen it, think again. It'll challenge you, but your good shots will be rewarded like few others in the Austin area -- best fairways I think I've ever seen. Greens were a little sandy, but they still held the ball on quality shots.

A wonderful layout. Very challenging - many of the holes are of the "very tough par, easy bogey" variety, meaning that you must plan your attack on the hole carefully, then execute those shots fairly accurately. The penalty for missing your target can be severe. A fair number of blind shots on the back 9. There is a total of 7 forced carries off the tee. Overall, course knowledge is a big advantage. Front nine is fairly level; back nine has a lot of elevation changes (the nines were switched around the end of 2019). There are houses on the fairways of 6 holes; the rest have none, and the back nine is pretty much out in the wilderness - very pretty - except for one hole. Greens and fairways are almost always in excellent shape and fairly fast - except for the once- or twice-yearly aerification. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I have played this course over 50 times and really love playing there.
