Detailed description of Los Rios Country Club, CLOSED 2018

Los Rios Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Plano, Texas.

Los Rios first opened for play in 1974. It was designed by Texas golf legend Don January.

The traditional layout spreads over 220 acres and features tree-lined fairways and generous sized Bermuda greens. Eight ponds are also found on the course, adding an additional test for golfers. The trees narrow the fairways providing an additional challenge to your golf skills.

The natural terrain for this 6,507 yard, par-71 course is studded with Live Oak trees and by a winding creek that comes into play on 14 of 18 holes.

Los Rios Golf Course closed October 2018.

The city of Plano owns the property and plans to convert it to a park

The course has some unique holes. All of the sand traps have been replaced with grass bunkers because the course is in a flood plain and according to the owner, to expensive to maintain in playable condition. Many of the past members have left because they didn't like the ownership and the changes he was making to the course. With that said, you can almost always walk on with little or now waiting. It's a good amateur course that keeps the pace of play "moving".

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

This course used to be great. But lately it has dropped in the care taken with it.

This course is handy to my residence, and it has the potential to be a very nice course. Unfortunately, it's not well managed, and the course itself is in poor condition. Groundsmen routinely interrupt play with mowers and trimmers, pace of play is often slowed by inconsiderate golfers, and marshalling is poor.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better courses for less nearby, Worse than average course for the area

Do Not Recall (cart included), played on Saturday, April 2008 at 10am

We were on hole 16 and they started a shotgun start tournament before and after us so the pace of play went from normal to snail speed. It took us an hour to play the last 2 holes.
