Detailed description of Rayburn Country Club & Resort

Rayburn Country Club & Resort -Blue/Gold/Green, is a Resort, 27 hole golf course facility located in Sam Rayburn, Texas.

Nestled among the Piney Woods of East Texas, the golf course is in three sets of nines:

The Gold Course is the original nine designed in 1968 by Jay Riviere. This course has water on one hole and includes sand bunkers on every hole, plus six holes with fairway bunkers. The course has wide fairways, and there are 47,700 square feet of greens on this nine.

The Blue Course was the second nine designed in 1972 by Robert Trent Jones. The course features generous landing areas off the tees. This course has the most doglegs (4) and is much tighter than the gold with challenging approaches. Six of the nine holes offer elevated greens, which total 52,700 square feet.

The Green Course was the last of the nines designed in 1979 by Robert von Hagge. The course is regarded as the most challenging as the greens are small at 29,900 square feet so placement on the tee shot is critical. The driver is often not the choice on the tee, even though this course offers a 600 yard double dogleg. Your golfing skills are truly tested on this course, so come and test your skills.

Renovated two years ago. New Clubhouse. 3rd nine has not been updated yet, but is fun to play just because it is so difficult.

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area
