The Hamptons Golf course first opened for play in 1989. The courses were designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Each of the three 9-hole courses have distinctive, unique qualities.
"The Woods" takes you out through tree-lined fairways punctuated by well-bunkered greens. The "Woods" course plays to 3,029 yards and a par-35.
"The Lakes" is perhaps the most scenic of the three nines, and the most challenging. That beautiful lake comes into play on five of the nine holes. The "Lake" course plays to 3,372 yards and a par-36.
"The Links" nine has Scottish-style mounding, pot bunkers, and wind-swept ornamental grasses, dappled with a colorful array of flowers. The "Links" course plays to 3,029 yards and a par-35.
Add to this a large practice putting green and a secluded practice range, and the package is complete.
Open year-round thanks to a temperate climate, The Hamptons is only a short drive from Tidewater's most popular attractions, from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach. They are located less than five minutes off of I-64 and 15 minutes from the Newport News Williamsburg International Airport.

With three nines I would rate the Woods as poor, The Lakes as good but difficult and the Links as good and very fair for all handicaps. The Woods is usually wet and fairways, greens and tees are subpar. Traps on all threes are unattended due to lack of sand and attention.

nothing fancy but a nice course, close to home and generally not crowded. Does get some very slow players at times

I traveled for work not too far from this course and got away quickly to play. For the price it is a good deal. Conditions are okay and layout/playability is nice and I enjoyed it. I rated it worse than average for the area only because there are some stellar courses in either direction towards Va Beach or Williamsburg, and the price goes up considerably too. For the location right off the highway, a good value, enjoyable, and a friendly staff, I give it a thumbs up and will play again. The 9 that starts off with the lake on the opening hole is the best 9 to me.

Played here 1-12-10, while on an emergency golf trip to get out of frigid and snowy conditions at home. Course is a nice, unassuming muni, located under the flight path in/out of Langley AFB, so in addition to playing golf, you can watch your tax dollars flying close overhead (F-15, F16, and F-22's: pretty cool). Three nines on the layout: I played Woods/Links. Design is decent, especially considering that the course is quite flat. Winter hasn't helped course conditions: fairways are uniformly beige, bunkers are solid, tee boxes like rocks, and greens quite rough. However, it's still golf, and better than what we're dealing with further north. Price was really good: less than $20 for the round with cart. Pro shop guy was very cordial and helpful, but the snack bar was CLOSED...boo hiss: not even a pot of coffee available. Course is walkable, and worth a look.

I enjoy playing The Hamptons, however some improvements are needed. Julia Pace
