Bought a round on golfnow.com for about $29 to play this course on a Wednesday afternoon enroute from Richmond to Fairfax. Staff was friendly enough and very accomodating as soon as I arrived. Had plenty of time to warm up on the range before my time. It seemed slow so they sent me off alone. I didn't run in to anybody for a while and played 15 holes in about 2 1/2 hours. But the last 3 holes took over an hour... I can see how pace of play could be a problem here. Good challenging golf course, fair and interesting. I would play this course multiple times, and plan to, especially at golfnow.com prices.

In 2009 I submitted comments hoping that new management would turn this place around, but I was wrong. They have done little since then to improve the course and do not appear to understand what is needed. Fairways are good, but tee boxes and greens have suffered. Sand traps were filled in and are now playable, but how long will it last is unknown. I love the layout of this course and I live in the neighborhood, so I hope and pray someone who knows what they are doing will buy this once premier course and put the money back into to it to return it to the good old days.

I have played the course a lot in the last 2 years and it has continued to deteriorate. There is a new ownership, and I am not convinced that they are aggressively trying to bring the course back to previous conditions that made it a "must play" course. There have been issues with the staffing, and they seem to be operating with a skeleton crew...in other words....on a tight budget. Playership is down and you can generally play a pretty fast round. They need to get the course in superior condition this spring, and do some creative promoting to encourage patrons to return to the course. The day I played, there was still snow on the course (not their fault), and I just wanted to go play somewhere close to home. But, the ownership needs to make the course maintenance the highest priority, to allow them to charge a premium price. I love the course, will continue to play there, but I hate that it is not the premiere course that it was 5-6 years ago.

Considering the time of year the condition of the course was as one might expect. I always enjoy playing at Augustine, a little pricy but all in all a very good experience. My biggest issue this day was the group in front of us playing at a 5+ hour pace, but idiots like this seem to be every where these days

Best layout in the area. Under new ownership/management. They are motivated to return this course to one of the best in VA.

We played on a very, very cold day. Temps at start 39, but it did go up to high 40's/low 50's. Play there about once a year. Like the lay out and the course has improved noticeably this year. Biggest complaint: they haven't watered the greens in about forever so they played like linoleum. Almost impossible to stop the ball.
