Detailed description of Wine Valley Golf Course

Wine Valley Golf Course opened for play in 2009. The course was designed by Dan Hixson.

Wine Valley Golf Club unfolds on a grand scale, playing over rolling hills in the shadow of the Blue Mountains. Each hole affords multiple lines of play, ensuring a pleasant round for every golfer and a true challenge for those who seek it. Wine Valley Golf Club has broad fairways to accommodate changing conditions and hole locations, dramatic bunkers that tempt and intimidate, and bold, undulating putting surfaces,

The course plays fast and firm - in the style of great links courses - rolling atop the rich soils deposited by the ancient Missoula Floods. Measuring up to 7,360 yards, Wine Valley has an appropriate challenge for the scratch golfer as well as the novice.

Wine Valley Golf Club architect Dan Hixson Hixson is a rising star in golf course design. After overseeing a handful of remodel and renovation projects in the Pacific Northwest, Hixson gained prominence with his acclaimed debut at Bandon Crossings in Bandon, Oregon. Wine Valley is his second solo design.

Playing this course in the late afternoon afforded me the opportunity to take some great photos and see the wild grasses turn from dusty brown to a autumn gold. The great layout of this course takes you on an adventure with huge bunkering forming the way to play this course. Even in the 105 degree temperature the slight breeze let you be in touch with nature and your surroundings. This was truly "ZEN" golf at its best. I would put Wine Valley on your bucket list of Northwest courses to play before your done playing.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Expensive and worth it, Best course in the area

Played on Saturday and took 5.5 hours which we had to wait on every hole. Didn't see any marshal on the course to speed up play. Greens are fast and great along with the fairways. Some of the traps need more sand as I found enough of them, overall was fun, just slow.

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area

Biggest fairways I have ever played. Never a level lie, HUGE traps and bunkers. When you get to the greens, "let the fun begin." Fast, Fast, FAST... lots of 3 and 4 putts. Finally got down to two putts. Tough course, worth the price. This course should be on your must play list.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

This course is way over rated. The greens are very thin and scarred. They were not consistent in pace.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby
