Can you choose provisional ball vs. found ball?

Are you required to make a reasonable effort to find a ball that may be lost or out of bounds if you would prefer to continue play with a provisional ball that you have played to the middle of the fairway or better yet, the green?

A. Yes, you must attempt to find and play your original ball. If you do not want to play the "lost ball," just declare you are hitting 3 from the tee and hit a second ball. If you declare a provisional, you can not wait to see where it lies and then decide to walk past the "lost" golf ball. You required to look for and play your original ball if found. If you violate this rule, you incur a 2-stroke penalty

B. No, there is nothing in the Rules to say that you must search for your ball. However, if the original ball is found before you have played your second stroke with the provisional ball, you must to continue play with the original ball.
