THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK IS...

Marking golf balls with alignment arrows
"Bill, Larry, Tom and I were playing golf. Bill always marks his ball with a black line with arrows. He then uses this black line with arrows to help line up his drives and his putts. We were playing with him not long ago. I hadn't thought much about Bill's ball marks until we reached the fifth green. He marked his ball, picked it up, cleaned it, and placed it on the green with the black line with arrow points aimed towards the hole. Larry, ""the rules czar"" said, ""Not so fast bill, your ball markings give you an undue advantage and are not legal. When we get back to the club house we can check the rules, but I think you may well be disqualified. Why don't I give you a couple of new golf balls that you can initial and we'll just play on."" What if any is the correct penalty?"
