"Larry often makes great use of cart path rolls to gain hitting length. The other day his ball once again enjoyed a golf cart roll and rolled past the midway point on a wooden bridge over a deep hollow before coming to rest. Larry correctly assessed that his ball was lying on an obstruction. He then started debating on if he should drop take his ""free drop"" on the ground on the near or far side of the bridge. He said he wasn't sure if he should drop the ball on the near side of the bridge so that his drop was not closer to the pin than the place of rest or if he should drop the ball on the far side of the bridge since the ball was past the midway point of the bridge. What is the correct course of action?"
