Larry tied with Scott in the club’s stroke play tournament. To determine the winner, they would play add holes one by one in a sudden death playoff. During the short break before heading to the playoff holes, Larry, who had 14 clubs in his bag, removed his 3 and 4 iron and replaced them with two wedges.
After both golfers completed the first playoff hole with pars, Scott asked Larry if he had substituted any of his original 14 clubs. When Larry confirmed that he had substituted a wedge, Scott told Larry that he needed to add a two- stroke penalty to his score for violating the 14 club maximum.
