Azusa greens, despite it's magnificent setting against the Dan Gabriel Mountains, used to be a goat pasture for many years until about two years ago when a major investment was made in the course. The clubhouse facilities received a major makeover a few years prior.
The course itself is a cleverly laid out, challenging track. The fairways are somewhat narrow and amazingly better than they were just three years ago. Grass grows now where it hadn't been before. The tree line and rough can have punishing lies and benefits from a 6" bump for relief from roots and Johnson grass clumps. Usually, a drive in the fairway is rewarded. The greens are well maintained and true and are well guarded by bunkers left and right but with a forgiving runway between the greens that are guarded by bunkers on each side of the front of the green.
It is a layout that rewards accurate drives and approach shots and punishes the errant shot. It is a great value for challenging everyday and vacation play.
